Over the years I’ve noticed a lot of parallels between training for a fight and living the Christian life. For example, to train successfully for a fight you have to be willing to make sacrifices, put your all into your training, and do hard things now to reap benefits later. As Christians we are called to live by these same principles: to be a living sacrifice, to love God with ALL our hearts, and to live for eternity instead of every day gratification.

We are saved by faith in Jesus (not by works), but we show are faith by our works. Sometimes this can be really hard! There are ups and downs, challenges, difficulties to overcome, and sin to root out of our lives.  Thankfully as believers we aren’t alone in this process; we have the Holy Spirit to help us.

And that’s what “Faith and Fighting” is about: fighting the good fight of faith.

"Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses." 1 Timothy 6:12

The most important thing you’ll read on here is the Gospel: the good news of Jesus Christ. Paul summed it up nicely when he wrote

This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.” (1 Timothy 1:15).

No one is perfect, and our sin separates us from God, not just now but will for all eternity if not taken care of. That’s why Jesus died on the cross, to pay the penalty for my sin and yours!

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23).

Jesus defeated death and sin by shedding His own blood for the sins of the world and rising from the dead. Salvation is a free gift for anyone!

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13)

Repenting of my sin and putting my faith in Jesus was the best decision I’ve ever made. Just like a fight, following Jesus isn’t always easy, but God has given us his Word, the Bible, to give us direction along the way, and the Holy Spirit to give us joy, peace, patience, and a hope that cannot be taken away.
